In case you don’t follow the #homecamp tweets on Twitter… you may not have noticed that Google announced their new PowerMeter tool, which plays in the same space as a lot of technologies that we talked about at HomeCamp 08 (Pachube, CurrentCost, Wattson and so on). The power monitoring party grows ever bigger, as Onzo, the London based developers of domestic power monitors reveals their new offering. According to this press release it should be available in the UK by mid 2009.

As a product – it looks fairly funky, the choice of font for the LCD gives it a sort of graffiti/comic strip look.
I see it’s equipped with a USB port for exporting data to a PC and “intelligent web based services”.
The use of rechargeable batteries and energy harvesting from the meter cable to which the sensor is attached sound pretty innovative for a device of this kind.
